For all the world it looked like Michigan finally got a break. The Wolverines' basketball season has been filled with plenty of frustration and had to be a similar feeling at its peak today against Ohio State in the Big Ten tournament. Michigan fought back and had the game tied 66-66 and Manny Harris hit a big shot with 2.2 seconds to play. The cameras showed the massive Ohio State crowd in silent despair and the few Michigan fans could hardly believe their eyes. But Michigan didn't guard the inbounds pass and the clock started a count late and Evan Turner had time to hit a 37 footer from just inside the midcourt line for a three pointer and the Buckeyes survived 69-68. They reviewed it but it was clearly good. The clock started late but Michigan couldn't do anything about it. Turner made a tough shot to be sure, but like I say it's been the story of Michigan's season. The Wolverines likely finish 15-16 when they were a #15 national pre season pick. They weren't ever close to that good all year. When they played hard and made a few shots they could be respectable-- like Friday. But now they lose DeShawn Sims and who knows if they'll be any better this season. They must feel snake bit for so many things that have gone against them in basketball. I guess they can only say wait till next year just like Chicago Cubs fans have done for years, right? |
