The MHSAA needs to continue its modernization of the state high school basketball tournaments and change game sites when precious dollars can be saved with venues that make more geographic sense.  Case in point-- Thursday night East Lansing plays Holt for the girls regional title-- in Battle Creek at Central High School.  So everyone has to drive the 60 miles to Battle Creek to see the game.  What would make more sense, obviously is for the schools to find a location, say Eastern's Fieldhouse and play the game in town which would draw more fans, keep fewer people in cars at night late on a school night, etc.  If no local venue can be found then the original site can be kept, but money is tight for these athletic budgets and how many busses will have to travel for a game that doesn't need to be played so far away.

This seems to me like an item that would get brought up more readily by districts because this happens often.  Teams from one town meeting in competition at a site miles away which inconveniences everyone.  It will happen again, likely this tournament season.  Some changes are allowed now in football and other sports, but it needs to be stepped up, in my judgment so that those interested can see the game in a far more convenient way.
