Tom Izzo isn't happy and he's frustrated and it's clear how he feels after listening to him followin his team's harrowing 67-65 win over Penn State Thursday night at Breslin Center.  This MSU team just isn't what he hoped it would be and whether he thinks his Spartans can make a tournament run in March or not-- who knows.  Maybe he doesn't know.  MSU's big problem, as Izzo sees it, is effort related and he seems to have tried everything to motivate his players to perform at a higher level.

The Spartans figure to beat Michigan on Sunday though-- don't they always?  Michigan should feel good about its chances simply because the Wolverines don't seem to have nearly as much pressure as the Spartans do.  But Michigan can't be as good as the 83-55 score over Minnesota the other night in Ann Arbor might seem to indicate.  Obviously Kalin Lucas and Durrell Summers, among others, seem to frustrate Izzo.  They are his leaders and his best players when they play at a high level.  Getting them to do it on a consistent basis has been a challenge.  I figure MSU will win Sunday and finish 24-7, but in the upcoming tournaments, on neutral sites, who knows what we'll see.  If you have any ideas for the coach on motivation beyond what he's already tried, maybe he'd like to hear about them.
