Why Alaska is in the CCHA is a mystery in the first place, but the travel arrangements for teams making the trip make little sense and should be changed after this season. Alaksa makes the travel arrangements-- and MSU's party is leaving at 5am for the Detroit airport-- 19 hours later MSU is due to arrive in Fairbanks at a hotel chosen by Alaska. There are two three hour layovers. Alaska provides 25 round trip tickets and MSU is paying for five more people in its travel party. MSU must practice away from the Arena Thursday after conquering jet lag. It makes little sense and is highly inconvenient. MSU has had success in Alaska-- 14-5-1 over the years and MSU swept during the last trip in 2007. But to me, if Alaska wants to keep this silly arrangement going then it must bend on travel arrangements. The visiting school should have final say on travel or at least the CCHA should be an intermediary. I don't buy Alaska in the league in the first place for the endless inconveniences, but making teams travel the way MSU must travel this week is crazy. MSU leaves at 1:30am after Saturday's game to come home and doesn't arrive back in Detroit until 4:15pm Sunday. |
