Granted I haven't heard from anyone who likes Michigan State's apparently newly designed logo. I don't know whether it will have legs and become a permanent fixture on MSU sports apparel, etc., but I don't get the big deal. Jeremy Sampson didn't believe when I told him I wouldn't have known the difference had I not been told the logo had been changed. Granted, when you hold the two Spartan figures up beside each other there is some difference. But that's the only way I would have noticed. I don't have a feeling one way or the other, but I get a kick out of those who say this toys with the school's "tradition." MSU has changed its sports look over the 50 years I've been around the school. The shades of green have changed, all the uniforms, the mascot heady Sparty has been changed and the emblems on hats and helmets have always changed. So what's the point? I was never sure the Earvin Johnson statue at the Breslin Center really looked like him, but the Sparty logo really isn't all that different is it? I'd think MSU fans would be far more concerned with teams winning and losing than slight changes in the logo. But it sure has stirred up conversation the past few days. |
