Granted I haven't heard from anyone who likes Michigan State's apparently newly designed logo.  I don't know whether it will have legs and become a permanent fixture on MSU sports apparel, etc., but I don't get the big deal.  Jeremy Sampson didn't believe when I told him I wouldn't have known the difference had I not been told the logo had been changed.  Granted, when you hold the two Spartan figures up beside each other there is some difference.  But that's the only way I would have noticed.

I don't have a feeling one way or the other, but I get a kick out of those who say this toys with the school's "tradition."  MSU has changed its sports look over the 50 years I've been around the school.  The shades of green have changed, all the uniforms, the mascot heady Sparty has been changed and the emblems on hats and helmets have always changed.  So what's the point?

I was never sure the Earvin Johnson statue at the Breslin Center really looked like him, but the Sparty logo really isn't all that different is it?  I'd think MSU fans would be far more concerned with teams winning and losing than slight changes in the logo.  But it sure has stirred up conversation the past few days.

Wow Ron from Parma! That is harsh. Whether you agree with the logo change or not, coach Izzo isn't a moron. As Americans we are all entitled to our opinions but insulting a good man and a great coach isn't very mature or responsible. I was lukewarm to the logo change and most people are uncomfortable with any change. Nevertheless, the one true fact about change is that it is inevitable. Embrace it. Live with it. Be more concerned with the Spartans going to another final four, winning it all, or you can even address the recent poor behavior of the football team. The whole logo thing is rather low on the totem pole in my opinion.

As a recent graduate of MSU, I was a little upset at the change at first. However, after listening to Coach Izzo's view it makes sense. This new logo will set the Michigan State Spartans apart from the hundreds of other Spartan affiliated schools around the country. As much as I love tradition, I know things were different before I attended the University and it would be nice to have a unique banner to wave. As a Spartan I rally behind my school and a logo isn't going to change what has made me proud to be a Spartan.
