In my view Don Canham never would have let it happen-- the former Michigan athletic director never would have let WJR Radio change its football and basketball broadcasts from Michigan to Michigan State in 2006. Money got in the way and I don't think the Michigan people thought WJR would ever move. Who knows how many recruits or games are affected by WJR's games, but in public perception, MSU has the upper hand in broadcast prestige-- WJR is the top station which people identify with and MSU is good to go with an extension through 2010. That was announced on Tuesday in Detroit. New Michigan athletic director David Brandon won't have the chance to woo WJR back to the maize and blue and that's not good for him. He'll have other issues and won't have time to deal with this one, but Canham sent WJR to mighty Michigan from 1976 through 2005 and the two seemed destined to be with each other for years-- but Michigan let it get away to MSU's delilght! |
