It's just a hunch-- if Michigan State beats Penn State Saturday I have the Spartans in the January 2nd Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas perhaps playing Oklahoma. That's a 9pm kick on ESPN. If MSU loses to Penn State, I have the Spartans in the Insight Bowl in Phoenix playing perhaps Iowa State-- both teams would likely be 6-6 and that's an NFL Network telecast and would be kind of a dud as a bowl game-- but that's probably a better alternative for the Spartans than playing Temple at Ford Field in the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl. I just don't think MSU wants to go to Detroit-- I think MSU wants the players to go to a warm weather site to help recruiting, even though the match up in Phoenix wouldn't be all that great. But we'll see. MSU would be an underdog by a little bit, to Oklahoma, but favored in Phoenix against almost anyone else. But you tell me, can MSU beat Penn State? I think the Spartans can clearly win only because Penn State never plays very well in East Lansing and I don't think the match up is as treacherous as it was last week at Purdue. The Boilermakers can pass better than Penn State-- and that's MSU defensive faux pas. Saturday's game will have more defense than people expect, I think and mistakes will decide the outcome. Penn State is a three point favorite-- if it was at Penn State, then MSU would be about a ten point underdog-- MSU never wins at Penn State-- but East Lansing is different. |

So Tim - try this scenario. Wisconsin beats NW, Ohio State beats Michigan, Iowa beats Minnesota and Penn St beats MSU. You have NW at 7-5, MSU at 6-6 and Minnesota at 6-6. How do you see the bowls shake out with this scenario? |
