The Land Grant trophy goes to the Michigan State vs. Penn State football winner each year-- it is always the final game of the regular season-- much to the detriment of MSU over the years I might add. And every year I always wonder if Michigan State will be the answer to a trivia question-- who was Joe Paterno's last regular season game against? With that in mind will next Saturday's home finale be the final game in Spartan Stadium for Paterno? He as usual has not tipped his hand about his future but facts are facts-- he is 82 and if he is back in Spartan Stadium for the next game between the two teams in 2011 he would be 84 right? It's hard for me to believe he'd still be coaching but many believe he'll go till he absolutely cannot coach anymore. And who knows when that will be? Or maybe he'll surprise everyone and step down after this season with little fanfare. In that case would next Saturday's game be his finale and if he steps down after next season would the game against MSU be his final regular season game and his final home game? And would it be announced in advance? I've thought about this every year the teams have ended their seasons against each other. It should be quite a day next Saturday-- the games in East Lansing are always wild and Penn State blew a 24-7 lead in the third quarter two years ago and lost 35-31 and I thought that game alone might do Paterno in. His team is good not great this season but still could finish 10-2 with a BCS berth and who knows maybe MSU will need a win to get a bowl bid itself. But everytime they play, to end the season, Paterno is always the number one story line. ##### |
