When Michigan State played at Purdue two years ago Brian Hoyer and Curtis Painter passed the ball up and down the field on each other. Eventually Purdue made enough turnovers to cost the Boilermakers dearly and Michigan State went home with a 48-31 win. That's 79 total points. I don't know if that many will be scored this Saturday but with 65 degree weather, passing should be available and I see both Kirk Cousins and Joey Elliott feasting on the other side's secondary. Both should be highly motivated. MSU is a one point favorite, but let's call this game pretty much a toss up. Michigan State, in my eyes, could win two games or lose two. I can make a case for State losing at Purdue but beating Penn State, a team that may be a tad over rated. MSU can still finish 8-5 with a bowl win and that would end up being just win less than a year ago which on balance, would not be that much of a step backward by season's end. The Spartans will face a dangerous team and I believe Purdue is much better than its 4-6 record. Purdue cannot make silly mistakes as it has been known to do-- the Boilermakers handed Wisconsin the game before it hardly began in Madison ten days ago. State is playing its final road game and on senior day, Purdue should feel good about its chances. This should be an entertaining game and I think mistakes will decide the winner. Purdue can win and then win at Indiana and still go to a bowl game. The Spartans have to win at least one of the final two. Both of them have had many highs and lows and many close games this season. There have been plenty of frustrations because both think they're better than their records. ##### |
