Plenty of dedication over the years from the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association in producing the all star game each July for the past 29 years. This year's game begins at 2pm Saturday in Spartan Stadium where all but three such games have been staged. Some 88 players from that many Michigan high schools take part, all graduating seniors, most who will go on and play in college at various levels. Some are playing their final tackle game, however. This is a very well organized event for the entire week the players and coaches are preparing in town. It's the East vs. the West and the six CAAC players involved are on the West team coached by Alma's Randy Lark, a former Michigan Stater. The locals are Chris Bronson of Jackson and Zach Houghton of Haslett, both of whom will play this fall at Wayne State. Micajah Reynolds of Sexton has already played in an international tournament this summer in Canton, Ohio and of course he'll play at Michigan State. Travis Dickenson of St. Johns is heading to Amherst to play and Charlotte's Blake Beals will play at Olivet. Everett's Reggie Williams moves from quarterback to receiver before heading to Grand Valley State. Tickets are $10 at the gate. It's well done and while the crowds are never overly large, the games are entertaining and the players enjoy the experience. It has stood the test of time and in these rough economic times and when high school coaches don't get much summer vacation, this is another week lost toward this game and those involved are dedicated to its success.
