I always marvel at the best area high school coaches and DeWitt's Rob Zimmerman is clearly in that group.  About to begin his 11th season as head coach, Zimmerman is excited about his team's chances.  The Panthers have had three state title games during Zimmerman's tenure, but have yet to win the title outright.  Zimmerman thinks this coming team might be his best, led by lineman Paul Jorgensen who has verbally committed to play at Northwestern and will sign next February with the Wildcats.

DeWitt has all three injured running backs from last year returning and two solid quarterbacks.  The Panthers open at home with Flushing, a team that beat DeWitt to start last season 21-7 and the Panthers, while a good team, never really got untracked the way Zimmerman hoped.  The Panthers will attend a three day camp in northern Michigan and no footballs will be present.  It's the fourth annual bonding camp where the players assemble and have a good time together and elect captains.  Zimmerman has a dead period for the next week and then he's anxious to have his team resume summer workouts toward the fall.  Zimmerman would be a good college coach at several different levels, but he loves the deal he has at DeWitt.  His JV team was 7-2 last fall, so the talent continues to flow to the varsity.  Look for DeWitt as a team to beat in mid Michigan this next season.
