The media is all over the mandatory Detroit Lions mini camp in Allen Park which began Tuesday and ends Thursday.  Training camp is a month away.  When the talk turns to the Lions quarterbacks the only two who ever seem to get mentioned are rookie Matt Stafford and veteran Daunte Culpepper-- and that's it.  With the exception of Drew Stanton, everyone else from last year is gone.  But what about Stanton, the former Spartan, whom the Lions chose with the 43rd pick in 2007?  He has spent two years languishing on the Lions' bench for the most part, fighting off injuries and lack of opportunity.

Stanton, according to reporters who I spoke with, didn't look very good throwing the ball in Allen Park during Wednesday's morning workout.  And he was off limits in terms of interviews afterward, meaning that the future must be limited.   One would think he'd like to get traded somewhere else where he'd get a better opportunity than he currently has with his so called hometown team.  It's clear the Lions wasted another draft pick-- and they sure could have used help elsewhere with that 43rd pick from the second round two years ago.

What the Lions plan to do with Stanton long term remains to be seen.  And he might even stay on the roster since teams need three quarterbacks and Stanton seems to be the third one in the pecking order.  But in terms of playing for the Lions it would appear that the upcoming pre season games will be his opportunity for this season-- and that may well be it.
