This job lets me interview and meet many people and Tuesday morning I caught up with 49-year old Shay Ramont. He pitches in the Lansing City baseball senior league, but in this division he is just using it as a springboard to move down to the 30 and older league. He's still a good pitcher at his age and throws again for his team at 8:30pm Friday at Kircher/Municipal Park. Ramont is three months removed from being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. At the Mayo Clinic he was sent home with six months to live. Instead he went on the internet and discovered the Gerson diet-- at Gerson.org. He followed its principles and long story short-- eventually he was declared cancer free to the astonishment of more than one physician. Today he has check ups regularly and more blood tests more often, but he is still pitching, still tending to his wife and seven kids and still running his three area businesses. He is a devout Roman Catholic and at one time was pitching coach at Lansing Catholic High School. He is liked and respected, a good interview and a sharp guy-- and truly an amazing story. He does not believe any doctor should tell a patient he or she has no hope-- he claims hope is everything. It is what he had and continues to live by and at least for now, that terminal cancer, as Ernie would say, is long gone. ##### |
