Golf in hi def is fantastic and channel Ten has the U. S. Open this weekend with coverage moved up to 10am on Saturday. Play will continue as long as it is light on Friday night because of the rain issues on Thursday. Two of our boys are at the Open for two days. One called me and said he is covered in mud and he couldn't believe how narrow the fairways are at Bethpage Black and how the greens all seem to sit uphill. He says television does do the sloping justic of the greens above the fairways. The players have made great shots on Friday and probably much of it is due to the soft greens from the heavy rains. The scores are good-- even David Duval shot 67 in the first round. They were talking about Mike Weir breaking Johnny Miller's Open record round of 63 in 1973... then Weir made a double bogey and fell back to 4 under with a couple of holes to play. Tiger Woods better get his game together tomorrow and he may have to deal with more poor weather. He has not had any of the good weather so far and that helped him shoot 74. He's not out of it, but plenty of guys are in front of him after one round. It should be a close weekend and I hope they finish on Sunday as they are supposed to do because that would make for high drama and a great way to spend Father's Day.
