What a break for Sparrow Hospital! MSU football coach Mark Dantonio has agreed to become Honorary Chairman of the Children's Miracle Network. It's a big deal. Ron Mason did it for 20 years and with his name and credibility more than $18 million was raised to help build the new pediatric emergency room, no small feat. Dantonio brings credibility and he'll make appearances and help the hospital with his players and other support staff. He's a great fit and he won't serve in just name only-- his wife Becky won't let him. She has helped Ele's Place greatly in the last year since becoming involved with that area charity.
Dantonio is part of the growing alliance between Sparrow and Michigan State University and it's a win-win for both sides because everyone looks good. Dantonio said at a news conference on Wednesday that he consulted with Ron Mason about the offer and after a year's delilberation decided to accept. Ron is now in retirement and the time is right to find a successor. They have to be smiling at Sparrow with Dantonio's commitment and while he won't attend every function you can bet he'll do plenty to help the various causes beginning with the annual telethon next month.
