Michigan drew 50,000 fans for its spring football game. Michigan State never draws anything near that. But then the Spartans haven't had the records similar to the past two seasons in a long time. Maybe off two bowl games in two years there will be more interest this spring. The game is Saturday, April 25th, at 1:30pm.
I would think there'd be extra interest just in checking out the new quarterbacks and running backs. The game is the same day as the NFL draft so that doesn't help. But MSU fans can check out Brian Hoyer's replacements-- Kirk Cousins and the anticipated look of Keith Nichol. And who will replace Javon Ringer at running back? Many guys will get carries led by Ashton Leggett, who at the moment seems to have a leg up on everyone else in spring drills.
The MSU basketball seniors will serve as honorary captains and there will be other notables in attendance. And maybe the biggest key will be the weather. Michigan had good weather last Saturday. If the weather is good that will help. Good weather clearly was a big factor in nearly 13,000 fans showing up Thursday night at Oldsmobile Park for the Crosstown Showdown game. Seems like we have so little good weather around here in the spring that there's pent up demand to get outside and enjoy it when it comes. And next Saturday for the Spartans will be a good time for such weather.
