Friday marks Tom Izzo's 54th birthday.  It interests him little.  He's more concerned that his MSU basketball team will be ready to play Penn State at home on Sunday.  Tip time is noon.  The Spartans have a one game homecourt losing streak and they don't want to stretch the streak to two.  Wisconsin currently has lost two straight home games.  So it can happen.  And Penn State gave MSU fits in Happy Valley two weeks ago before losing 78-73.  Penn State can only hope for a sleepy crowd on Super Bowl Sunday.  Tickets are available.  MSU is now 7-1 in Big Ten play with only four road games left-- at Illinois, Purdue, Michigan and Indiana.  You figure they'll at least beat the Hoosiers and then have to play hard and earn the other three.  This is no time to lose a home game.  Minnesota and the Hoosiers follow Penn State into the Breslin Center.

Michigan basketball coach John Beilien spared Zack Novak the hassle of playing in a hostile environment Saturday at Purdue.  Novak has been suspended by his coach for the game for elbowing Ohio State's P. J. Hill in the face on the free throw line late in Wednesday's game in Columbus.  The Big Ten concurs with Beilein's move saying Novak's move was unacceptable.  Michigan better start winning some games or the Wolverines and Wisconsin may represent the league in the NIT tournament.

Get ready for next week's big boys high school basketball showdown-- Eastern at Okemos.  The teams meet again at Eastern on February 24th.  Okemos is better than most people believe.  LaDontae Henton may be the big stud for Eastern but Travis Bader of Okemos has held his own against everyone so far this season.
