Wow! Michigan fans will see many of the guys they rooted for in Ann Arbor playing this Sunday in Tampa. There are eight Wolverines in the game including six for the Arizona Cardinals. Michigan also has three of its former assistant coaches now employed by either the Cardinals or Pittsburgh Steelers. The only MSU connection is an assistant coach with Arizona named Billy Davis who is listed as a graduate assistant on the MSU staff in 1990-91-- but I never heard of him.
I thought Purdue's win in Madison Tuesday night was big. The men's Big Ten basketball race looks like it will boil down to three teams-- MSU, Purdue and Illinois. Purdue won 64-63 over Wisconsin and it's hard to believe the Badgers have lost five in a row. They do not host MSU this season, but still have a game coming up February 22 in East Lansing. Purdue now is 3-1 on the road, MSU is 4-0. They play each other twice and they end the regular season on Sunday, March 8th at the Breslin Center. Figure that game perhaps determining the Big Ten title. Purdue is getting healthier and the Boilermakers have won five in a row after losing their opening two games while battling injuries.
I've been offered 12 1/2 points by a staff member and taking Okemos in the big girls high school hoops showdown at 6pm Friday. Top ranked East Lansing plays at Okemos and both are unbeaten. I'm thinking Okemos can cover that. Okemos has a terrific senior in Tracy Nogle and I don't think the Chiefs are afraid of East Lansing. The teams split two games last season. Next Tuesday is the big boys showdown-- once beaten Lansing Eastern at unbeaten Okemos. It's been a banner year in basketball at Okemos but will both teams be unbeaten by this same time next week?
