Michigan has a new football defensive coordinator. Greg Robinson gets the job replacing Scot Schafer, who was let go after this past season. Robinson was head coach at Syracuse and fired after this last season with a 10-37 record in four years. Michigan opens at home next September against Western Michigan.
Signing day is two weeks from Wednesday. Michigan State now has 20 verbals with the addition of Troy place kicker Kevin Muma of Troy. He went 12 for 19 in field goal kicking for his team this past season with a long of 52 yards. Michigan State may add one or two more players to its final list.
Pat Perles has a new job after six seasons as an assistant at North Dakota State. He's the new offensive line coach at Ball State where Stan Parrish was promoted to head coach a month ago. Brady Hoke left to become head coach at San Diego State. Ball State was 12-2 this past season with two blow out losses at season's end. Pat is the son of George Perles, the MSU icon.
Bill Sheridan has been promoted from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator of the New York Giants. Sheridan is the father of Michigan quarterback Nick Sheridan and he is a former assistant at Michigan State.
And new Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is trying to identify his assistant coaches while attending Senior Bowl practice this week in Mobile, Alabama. The game is Sunday and it is a haven for assistants looking for NFL jobs. MSU running back Javon Ringer has pulled out of the game because of knee surgery to weeks ago. He hopes to be fully healthy for the NFL Combine on Feb. 18th in Indianapolis. RInger has now had three knee surgeries since his senior year in high school and likely it will drop his status for the April NFL draft.
