It's an old saying-- nothing good ever happens to athletes out after midnight. And so it goes for those at Michigan State. The East Lansing police will take their investigation into next week and then decide whether to recommend charges or not against anyone involved in an altercation in the early hours of Sunday morning following the Ohio State football game.
Sophomore defenseman A. J. Sturges of the MSU hockey team is hospitalized at Sparrow in fair condition. He reportedly suffered a one punch knockdown-- police are checking to see who may have thrown it. Reportedly seven or eight athletes are involved, some from the football team.
MSU officials say they are fully cooperating with the investigation. News conferences with coaches on Tuesday may or may not provide more information since Mark Dantonio and Rick Comley regularly meet with reporters on those days. MSU hosts Northern Michigan in hockey this week end while the football team has a 3:30pm game at Michigan.
A number of MSU hockey players live in a house in the 100 block of Center Street where a car pulled up at 1:30am and the altercation reportedly began.
By the way, MSU officials have also announced the kick off will be noon for the November 1st home game against Wisconsin.
