Friday night football-- Charlotte, 4-1, is at home against Haslett, 3-2. The visitors have won three in a row after an awful 0-2 start. Charlotte may be the most underrated team in the area. This should be a good game and I like Charlotte. East Lansing isn't happy at 3-2 after losing to winless Lansing Eastern, but theTrojans just might upset unbeaten Grand Ledge at home Friday night. The hottest team might still be Sexton after a double overtime win over tough Davison. Sexton should roll at home over Owosso and the Big Reds will then be 5-1. Eastern is looking for two wins in a row, playing at Holt and Tommie Boyd is back in the saddle as Eastern's coach. I like Holt, but Eastern is also capable of a second straight upset.
Rick Comley can't believe the other conferences in college hockey did not follow the CCHA and adapt shoot out rules for the coming season. The shootouts will only be used in CCHA league games and only after a five minute overtime produces no winner. Comley figures that shootouts will be the norm throughout college hockey, maybe as early as next season.
Saturday Big Ten football-- MSU in a nailbiter at home over Iowa and an upset is also possible here. Iowa is much better defensively and Javon Ringer will have his toughest day. Michigan in a nail biter at home over Illinois. I like Ohio State at Wisconsin prime time and if the Buckeyes indeed win, I still like them for the Rose Bowl. We'll see how advanced freshman quarterback Terrelle Pryor really is... Minnesota wins a close one at home over Indiana and Purdue covers 12 1/2 points at home over Penn State, but doesn't win and the Nittany Lions roll on unbeaten. Northwestern is idle at 5-0 waiting for Michigan State a week from Saturday. Notre Dame covers 7 at home over Stanford.
