Eastern H.S. Looking For New Athletic Director

Nearly a month after winning its opening football game, Eastern High School finally has closure to the investigation of its using six ineligible players against Detroit U of D Jesuit.  Athletic director Mario Villareal is out, but he can stay in the school district as a teacher if he desire.  The job has been posted and the district hopes to fill it as soon as possible.  First year head coach Tommie Boyd completes his four game suspension this week-- the Quakers play at East Lansing tonight and at Holt next Friday.  Eastern is 0-4 at the moment.

You wonder what underdog home football teams will benefit Saturday from watching Oregon State at home Thursday night upset top ranked Southern Cal.  Could that include Indiana?  The Hoosiers are 8-point underdogs to Michigan State in a noon game on ESPN.  You can bet both head coaches have made referance to the stunning upset in Corvallis, Oregon.

In Ann Arbor the big deal Saturday is the introduction to the crowd in the pre game of Gold medalist Michael Phelps.  He should draw the biggest roar of the day.  Phelps will hold a 15-minute news briefing in Crisler Arena at 2:45.  The game kicks off at 3:30.  Wisconsin is a touchdown favorite.

There's Breslin Center volleyball Friday and Saturday at 6:30pm each night.  The Spartans host Ohio State and Michigan.  It's the first time volleyball has been played outside Jenison since 1995.

Tom Izzo will be stationed outside the Breslin Center Saturday night.  It's the annual Izzone campout on Munn Field and with good weather it should hold quite a crowd.  Plus the MSU busses will be returning across the street at approximately 11pm with the Spartan football team from Bloomington.
