Grand Ledge High School's powerhouse baseball team will have at least two division one seniors on the field next spring. Catcher Dustin Ditsworth has verbally committed to Western Michigan. Ditsworth has been a starter since his freshman year. His good buddy is outfielder/pitcher Tony Wieber and he is considering Western along with Michigan State. Both players will sign in November.
Former Haslett High School football star Calvin Hissong is done as a college player at Central Michigan University. Hissong suffered a neck injury in practice last month and doctors have advised him against playing any more. Hissong is a former walk on who became a starter in CMU's secondary. He would have had two years of eligibility remaining.
Former MSU goaltender Jason Muzzatti, who played for the Spartans from 1987-91, has joined the board of directors for the Greater Lansing Amateur Hockey Association. Muzzatti says nearly 300 kids, the same number as a year ago, will enroll in GLAHA for this coming season and that the Summit is good to go again as an area rink good for games and practices. There'd been rumors all year that the Summit might not reopen, but it is good for the entire coming season. Muzzatti finished playing goalie as a part timer with the Flint Generals last season-- much of his current time is training goalies wherever he can find them who need help.
Grand Ledge and Everett should have a whale of a football game Friday night at Everett. Both are 3-0 and both have terrific senior quarterbacks. Reggie Williams runs more for Everett and Nick Kissane is easily the area's passing stats leader. This could be a shootout. I'll pick Everett in a close one, and the winner could end up with a 9-0 regular season.
