The Lansing School District announced Tuesday that Eastern High School football coach Tommie Boyd will sit out two more games and then return two coach his team in game five, October 3rd at Holt. The Quakers will be led by interim coach Richard Woods for the next two games, at Jackson and at East Lansing. Boyd will have missed four games altogether for using ineligible players in an opening game victory. Meanwhile the investigation continues around suspended athletic director Mario Villareal. He doesn't not yet know his eventual fate.
Notre Dame sure isn't getting any love around America for its game against Michigan State. Many believe the Spartans will easily cover the 8 1 /2 point spread. The Spartans have won eight of the last 11 games in the series. Injured Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis conducted his usual Tuesday news conference and said his team is now playing with confidence and he'll be interested to see how the players respond to an opening road game against what he calls a physical, smashmouth team.
The 6th annual MSU Marching Band Concert for Kids has been rescheduled for 3pm this Sunday, per the notice on the tickets. It was postponed from this past Sunday. Call Lisa Weber at 896-4198 for ticket information at the Sparrow Foundation.
Lions quarterback Jon Kitna says "it's been worse than this around the team." The Lions are 0-2 and have been behind 21-0 in each game and that shows how bad things are. The Lions play the 49ers in San Francisco this Sunday then get a bye week. It could be a long two week period if they lose again on the West Coast.
Tom Izzo observes his 25th anniversary on the MSU basketball coaching staff this week. He is downplaying the milestone. Just think how different MSU sports might have been had Izzo not become an assistant to Jud Heathcote back in 1983.
