So how many people will actually be in Spartan Stadium, considering the rain that is expected?  They're saying several inches.  Because ESPN2 is carrying MSU vs. Florida Atlantic, the inclement weather might be enough to keep people home.  They can also watch Michigan and Notre Dame slog through the mud of the natural grass in South Bend.  You can be sure these fields will be heavily covered right up until game times on Saturday.

Congratulations to 26-year old Mike Scott. He's been named the new head baseball coach at Lansing Catholic High School.  Scott was an assistant to Jake Boss, Senior, the past four seasons.  Jake Senior is joining Jake Junior, who is the new head coach at Michigan State.  Jake Senior led Lansing Catholic for seven seasons.  Scott played at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.

A somber Friday night football game at Olivet High School.  Number 45 is being retired during the game against Kalamazoo Christian.  It was worn by A. D. Thelen.  He was killed in a car crash back on July 18th.  Thelen's parents are setting up a fund in his name to benefit athletics at the school.

Everyone says rain affects the offense more in football-- I 'm not so sure.  I think defenses struggle to get footing and defensive players don't know where they are going on plays.  There will be slipping and sliding whereever the heavy rain falls on Saturday.  There should be some goofy plays and who knows if the weather will help an underdog spring an upset.

No sweat for the LIons.  They play at home and Ford Field is covered of course.  The bigger problem is the Lions have to face the Green Bay Packers who sure looked good in winning their opener Monday night at home, 24-19 over the Minnesota Vikings.
