Jeff Meyer has joined head coach John Beilein's staff in the Michigan basketball program. Meyer was an assistant at Indiana last season when all the issues with Kelvin Sampson finally reached a boil. A Michigan news release says Meyer has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the NCAA. He replaces Tracy Hamner who went home to Virginia to take a boys high school job.
Uh oh, Lugnuts have lost four in a row. They lost a Monday home matinee game to the Clinton Lumber Kings, 5-1. The Lugnuts are now 20-17 in the season's second half with 33 games remaining before the play offs. They head to Wisconsin and Beloit for series' the remainder of the week. The Lugnuts have already locked up a play off berth by winning their division in the season's first half.
Grand Ledge High School's 11-man cross country team is in the first day Monday of its two day Shore to Shore run. Each kids runs 4-5 miles and then switches to someone else. The team runs across the state and heads through Grand Ledge all together at about 6pm Monday. This is the 11th year of the summertime event for veteran coach Kim Spalsbury. Up to this year, some $6,500 has been raised for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Tigers on the road this week-- four at Cleveland and three at Tampa Bay, the team with the best record in the major leagues through Sunday. I'll bet Todd Jones still serves as a closer on the road. The Tigers still don't trust Zumaya and Rodney because of injuries, pitch count, control, etc. The trade deadline is Thursday-- do they look somewhere, anywhere to find pitching help for their stretch run?
