MORE GREAT SCORES AT BUICK OPEN

Lightning delayed play for 22 minutes at the Buick Open Thursday in the opening round-- but that's all that has slowed down the players in the first day of play.  Corey Pavin fired an 8 under par 64, while Briny Baird is a shot back and Woody Austin trails by two.  This could be a tournament again where the winner has to shoot 20 under to win it.

David Grewe has not been officially introduced at LSU.  He is recruiting coordinator along with pitching coach.  Michigan State is now looking for a successor.

At Wimbledon on Thursday-- Andy Roddick and Maria Sharapova are both knocked out.  Roddick was America's best hope in the men's division and he was eliminated in the third round.

Detroit Pershing basketball star Kevin Appling is strongly considering Michigan State.  Appling stands 6-3, 170 pounds and MSU's coaches have told him he is free to verbally commit at any time.  Appling says MSU is his leader at the moment, but he is not yet totally ready to commit.

Drew Neitzel told me Thursday he expects to be chosen as high as the middle of the second round of the NBA draft.  Neitzel will watch at home in Grand Rapids on television with his family.  Neitzel worked out privately for nine NBA teams after attending the pre NBA draft camp for a week in Orlando.
