PRIME TIME FOR THE SPARTAN FOOTBALLERS!

Michigan State opens its football season at California on August 30th and the game will be played in prime time.  ABC will televise and it kicks off at 8pm Michigan time.  What a way to start the season!  The exposure is great, especially if you win.  Cal lost to DeSean Jackson early to the NFL draft, but the Spartans lost Devin Thomas, so that's a wash.  Both teams have high hopes for this fall.  It's a great place to vacation!  If you go, plan on spending four or five days because there are so many things to do in the San Francisco bay area.  No other start times have been announced for games this next season.

The Spartans last played in Berkley in 1957 and they've won two of three games in the series.  This is the rematch from the 2002 game at Spartan Stadium where Bobby Williams' team lost 46-22.  Cal QB Kyle Boller had a big day en route to a big season which led to him being chosen prominently in the NFL draft.

The game will also mark the 63rd straight game MSU has played in football which has been seen somewhere on live television.

And this Saturday, MSU gets Big Ten Network television exposure.  The softball team's game at Northwestern will be televised along with the doubleheader baseball games at Penn State.  Both road trips appear to be tough for MSU.  The softball team likely will not make the Big Ten tournament and the baseball team could really use at least three wins in the four game series to keep its hopes alive.
