BUSY MSU WEEKEND, CHANCE TO SEE MANY EVENTS FOR FREE!

If Saturday's weather holds, MSU Spartan fans should enjoy a variety of sports on campus.  The spring football game leads the way, beginning at 1:30pm with the teams seemingly evenly divided. Tom Izzo and Joe Baum are honorary coaches.

At Kobs Field at 1pm, MSU hosts Big Ten leader Michigan in a doubleheader.  If the games are wiped out, a doubleheader will be played Sunday in Ann Arbor.  At the moment, Michigan hosts only a single game on Sunday.  The teams cannot make up any games in the four game set after Sunday.  Play begins Friday night.  Michigan State has already lost a game with Ohio State.  It hopes to make it up with another non conference game. Each Division one college team gets 56 regular season games.  The Spartans are 13-17 in their first 30, 4-7 in Big Ten play heading into the Michigan series.

MSU softball features single games Friday and Saturday with Purdue and a 1pm doubleheader on Sunday against Indiana. The MSU softball team is having an average season thus far.

And there is also MSU tennis on Saturday.

Nearly 200 former MSU players gathered all day Friday in Williamston for the annual players' alumni golf outing to begin the football week end.  Notables, like Drew Stanton, Flozell Adams and many others were on hand.  The current MSU staff was also present to meet and greet former members and I was impressed with how good Ron Goovert looked.  He was a stud lineman on the 1963-65 teams and is a native of Hazel Park.

The Red Wings host Nashville in game five on Friday and the Pistons host Philadelphia to begin the NBA play offs at 6pm Sunday at the Palace.  Game two isn't until Wednesday night.  The Pistons would have homecourt in any series during the playoffs except against the Boston Celtics.

And a high school baseball doubleheader of note Saturday, 11am at Municipal Park.  Grand Ledge faces Lansing Catholic and both teams are unbeaten.  They split a doubleheader a year ago.
