RED WINGS TO CHANGE GOALIES-- WILL IT HELP?

Game five for the Red Wings and Nashville Predators coming up Friday night at Joe Louis Arena.  The series is even at two wins apiece after the home team has won the first four.  It's now a best of three series-- the pressure is on the Wings, but at least they do get two home games if necessary.  But what about the goaltending?  Red Wings' coach Mike Babcock has decided to go with Chris Osgood after using him midway through game four on Wednesday.  That's all fine, but the Wings did only score two goals, both by Pavel Datsyuk in game four, so isn't offense an issue as well?  The game five winner may well eventually move on to round two.  I still like the Wings' chances because they're simply a better team, top to bottom.  You wonder, though if Dominik Hasek will ever play another game in Detroit.

He won't like it, but I'll predict that Grand Ledge coach Pat O'Keefe's baseball team this spring will lose no more than five games over all and might go unbeaten in the regular season.  The Comets are loaded with veterans after losing just two players to graduation after last season.  Grand Ledge started a junior and a sophomore pitcher in an easy doubleheader sweep at DeWitt this past Monday.  There's a showdown series coming Saturday at Municipal Park-- unbeaten Grand Ledge vs. 6-0 Lansing Catholic.  Grand Ledge should still win twice after the teams split two games a year ago.

Suzy Merchant has signed a third recruit for next fall's incoming class.  She is 5-11 Taylor Johnson, a guard/forward from Lakewood, Colorado.  Johnson joins POrsche Poole from Canton, Ohio and Courtney Schiffauer of Boardman, Ohio, the latter two having signed last fall.  The Spartans finished with a 23-14 record and a WNIT tournament runner up finish in Merchant's first season.

NBA coaching moves so far on Thursday-- Larry Krystkowiak out at Milwaukee, Isiah Thomas out with the New York Knicks and the same fate for Jim Boylan, the interim coach of the Chicago Bulls, who replaced Scott Skiles at mid season.  Boylan is a former MSU assistant.  The Bulls went 24-32 under Boylan's direction.

Your not a hockey fan? Many people in the Lansing area enjoy hockey. We play golf, but watching golf all the time on tv is like watching paint dry. Lets get something exciting for once.
