SURGERY FOR MARQUISE GRAY

Michigan State junior Marquise Gray will undergo surgery on Wednesday to fix a torn miniscus, an injury he suffered last Thursday during practice in Houston for the Memphis game.  Gray played sparingly against the Tigers Friday night.  Gray is one of four Spartans back for their senior seasons and hoping to make a run at the Final Four at Detroit's Ford Field-- Idong Ibok, Travis Walton and Goran Suton being the other three.  Gray is a key to the Spartans' success next season.  He has struggled over various on court issues since he joined the Spartans and much was expected when he came aboard.

The Spartans need physical, athletic players and Gray gets one last shot to fill the bill next winter.  He cannot practice until late June at the earliest and that won't help his development any, but he has no choice in this matter, his knee has to be fixed.  The Spartans managed to stay relatively healthy over the course of the long season and that makes two years in a row that major injuries were averted.

Drew Neitzel has been chosen to take part in the three point shooting contest Thursday night in San Antonio at the Final Four.   Neitzel will be one of eight competitors chosen from teams not playing in the Final Four.  Big Ten Network analyst Tim McCormick tells me he's changed his mind and now doubts Neitzel will get drafted in June.  He's concerned that Neitzel cannot create his shot off the dribble which NBA players, especially guards, must be able to do.
