As this is written, East Lansing High School's girls basketball team is moving on to Saturday's class A state finals in Ypsilanti.  The top ranked Trojans have won two nail biters this week-- 45-44 over Grand Haven in the quarter-finals and 54-53 in the semi-finals Friday afternoon over Saginaw Arthur Hill.  In both games, East Lansing players made two free throws in the final two seconds to erase one point deficits and provide victory.  By contract, the Illinois' men's team went 9 for 19 Thursday night in losing by 8 points in Champaign to Michigan State.  Some can make free throws down the stretch, others cannot.

East Lansing has a young team and win or lose the title game Saturday, the Trojans will be tough to handle again next winter.  Coach Rob Smith's team has had some tremendous thrills along the way and the ride continues for the East Lansing boys team which will play in its own quarter final next Tuesday against Muskegon.  That game tips at 7 o'clock in Lansing Eastern's Don Johnson Fieldhouse.  The winner moves on to the Breslin Center for Friday's semi final.  The MHSAA has split the quarter-final doubleheader and now Lansing Christian will play at Holt next Tuesday.  Lansing Christian faces Lawrence and that tip time has now been set for 7 o'clock.

Tom Izzo put his MSU Spartans through a normal practice Friday afternoon hoping the players who were bothered by the flu at Illinois will be okay for Sunday's noon game at Ohio State.  The teams will also meet at 2:30pm next Friday in the quarter-finals of the Big Ten tournament in Indianapolis.  Michigan State is 24-6 on the season after its 59-51 win at Illinois on Thursday.

Michigan bowed out of the Big Ten women's tournament with a 58-37 loss to league co champ Iowa on Friday.  The Wolverines split two games in the tournament but at least they won a game for the first time in this event in four years.  Michigan finishes 17-13 unless the Wolverines get a bid to the WNIT.

I am very disappointed with your sports section on the news, there are other sports besides basketball, you spend more time on basketball than any other sports and tonight you spend 40 seconds on college wrestling and when the MHSAA wrestling States tournament is going on there is no coverage on it. My play of the week would have been of those wrestlers who are wrestling for the STATE CHAMIONSHIP.
