These are the top items on college football signing day: Michigan State signs 21, no quarterbacks nor kickers... top prospect is wide receiver Fred Smith from Detroit. The Spartans could sign several more. Michigan is worried about running back Sam McGuffie from Texas whom they have not heard from and are unsure if he will sign. Michigan doesn't know about quarterback Terrelle Pryor of Jeannette, Pa., because he has delayed his decision to visit Oregon.
Central Michigan signed two mid Michigan high school basketball players to its football class of 22-- Mike Repovz of Lansing Catholic and Darryll Stinson from Jackson. It is Butch Jones' second recruiting class.
The top two mid Michigan recruits are unsigned and trying to decide their future plans-- running back Issac Harper of East Lansing and quarterback Dan Van Dreumel of DeWitt who may end up at a large school and not play sports.
Former Spartan wide receiver Matt Trannon bounced around some NFL practice squads this past season. He has signed on with the Pittsburgh Steelers hoping to make the team in training camp.
Veteran area golfers remember the name Reggie Myles, Jr. For 27 years he served as the professional at East Lansing's Walnut Hills Country Club, retiring in the 1980s. Reggie died early Wednesday in Charlotte, North Carolina after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Myles played at East Lansing High School and Michigan State and won the 1953 Michigan Amateur championship. He was well like by many. He was 77 and funeral plans will be soon announced for services in this area.
