On Friday, Indiana junior James Hardy declared for the NFL draft.  He scored the Hoosiers' first touchdown at Spartan Stadium last October.  Hardy's loss certainly hurts the Hoosiers, who need all the good players they can find.  Other Big Ten underclassmen who must decide by January 15-- Devin Thomas of Michigan State and Adrian Arrington and Mario Manningham of Michigan.

Always a treat to speak with East Lansing High School 1985 graduate Dan Olsen, who just turned 40-- he recently completed his 17th tour qualifying school, although he did not make either one of the major tours.  He'll play some part time mini events beginning January 16th in Orlando.  Olsen has a wife and two kids and is living in his fourth year in Ponte Vedra, Florida, just down from V. J. Singh's house.  Olsen has struggled with injuries the past few years and is considering other golf opportunities which could move him out of state if necessary.

Free public skating from 3:30pm to 5pm Saturday at Suburban Ice East Lansing.  The event is part of national figure skating month.

The Simmons brothers of Williamston are no longer part of the MSU wrestling program after six years.  They're still together, this time working out at Oregon State University.  They both hope to make the 2008 Olympic team for the Beijing games later on this year.  Nick has the best shot because injuries have been a problem for Andy.  Michigan State's new wrestling star is Puerto Rican sophomore Franklin Gomez.  He is ranked third in the nation at 133 pounds.

Is it true or not?  The Toledo Blade's report on Thursday that Michigan quarterback Ryan Mallett is transferring to UCLA.  Mallett has made no such announcement.  Lloyd Carr claims he knows what Mallett is going to do but isn't saying.  As it is we are awaiting the announcement of assistant coaching staff assignments from new Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez.
