I BET THE SPARTANS BEAT TEXAS

It seems like it's in the cards-- Michigan State will beat unbeaten and fourth ranked Texas at the Palace Saturday night.  Tip time is 6:30.  Tickets are available.  There is a second game-- Oakland vs. Oregon.  Why the games aren't reversed I guess must have something to do with television.  What other reason could there be?

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo is grouchy.  He knows his team is full of promise.  The Spartans are 10-1 with two non conference games remaining.  If they beat Texas they'll be 12-1 heading into Big Ten play.  The league has 18 games during the regular season and I'll bet the Spartans win most of them, providing Morgan and Neitzel both stay healthy.  I think they can lose other guys, but not those two-- just my opinion.

Izzo is happy today with his team's grades-- a 3.0 plus cumulative average.  It shows you can have a good team with players who have good grades.  He likes that and why not.  It will get brought up on the telecasts beginning Saturday night.  Texas is a good team but due for a loss and this one will be it.  The Spartans will be in a festive holiday mood and so will the crowd and the Longhorns are ripe for the picking.  It's just a hunch.  Even though Texas won at UCLA with all of the Bruins healthy, I just don't think it will be their night on Saturday.  Michigan State appears to be a team that will be 26-5 at the worst heading into the Big Ten tournament come March-- again providing there are no significant injuries to key players.  Happy holidays Tom.

And by the way-- San Jose State would have been better off watching a Spartans practice than playing in a game.  The long 3,000-mile trip sure didn't produce much.  The visitors were quickly ready to fold after falling behind 12-0 but they didn't learn much by even playing hard the rest of the way.  Izzo won by 40 points and he was more unhappy about it than anyone from San Jose State that I saw.
