The Heisman Trophy will be awarded Saturday night during an ESPN telecast from New York. Predicted order of finsh-- 1) Tim Tebow, Florida; 2) Darren McFadden, Arkansas; 3) Colt Brennan, Hawaii; 4) Chase Snyder, Missouri.
Tebow then wants to prove that he deserves the Heisman as the first sophomore winner. So he takes it out on Michigan during the Capital One Bowl New Year's Day in Orlando. The game is a sellout. Meanwhile plenty of tickets remain for the December 28th Champ's Sports Bowl between MSU and Boston College. The difference is Florida playing in the Michigan game. A Florida team will fill the bowl stadium.
Time change coming? The MSU bowl game begins at 5pm on the 28th. That same night at 7 o'clock, the MSU women's basketball team is supposed to open its league home schedule against rugged Minnesota. There may be plenty of good seats available since not much of a crowd can be expected to show up. And at 8 o'clock at Joe Louis Arena, the MSU hockey team is supposed to play Michigan Tech in the GLI tournament. Michigan plays Providence at 4:30pm. I can see the women's game changing times, but not the hockey game.
Rutgers' Greg Schiano told his team he wasn't taking the Michigan job and was staying at Rutgers. That's nice but Schiano was never offered the Michigan job. He merely discussed it with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and the word leaked. Michigan does not have an apparent sense of urgency to fill the post. I still believe Iowa's Kirk Ferentz may end up with it when all is said and done. It's noteworthy that Ferentz has a daughter at Michigan and the U-M President, Mary Sue Coleman, likes him and hired him at Iowa when she was there as school president.
