COULD IT BE BOTH U-M AND MSU IN ORLANDO?

Try this one on for size.  Wisconsin accepted a bid to Tampa's Outback Bowl New Year's Day to play a Southeastern Conference opponent, the first Big Ten school to be assigned its bowl.  Wisconsin and the Tampa people obviously want to get going on ticket sales and the Badgers will send thousands to Florida for the game.  As I see it that means if Oklahoma beats Missouri this Saturday in the Big 12 championship game, then Orlando could have both Michigan State and Michigan playing their games in the same stadium four days apart.

Under that scenario, Michigan State could play December 28th in Orlando's Champp's Sports Bowl and Michigan could play in the Bank One Bowl on New Year's Day.  The Orlando people would have to choose Michigan over Penn State, but both finished 8-4 and Michigan finished higher up in the Big Ten standings.  Plus it's Lloyd Carr's final game.  And how about this scenario-- if LSU loses to Tennessee in the SEC championship game on Saturday, what if LSU is paired up against Michigan?  Les Miles could coach LSU in the first half and Michigan in the second half.  Or if he gets the Michigan job which team would he coach?

The Michigan people are due to meet with Miles soon after Saturday's game, perhaps on Sunday.  And Miles is due to have his contract renegotiated by LSU next week because he won ten games this season and under that scenario he automatically gets a salary raise.  Michigan will have to act quickly to nab Miles if it wants him.  Michigan inquired about Iowa's Kirk Ferentz through a third party last week but Ferentz was not interested in moving to Ann Arbor where he has a daughter in college.

Oh and former CMU coach Brian Kelley will speak with Nebraska officials about their vacancy.  Nebraska asked permission of Cincinnati for permission to speak with Kelley and received it.  Cincinnati is 9-3 and will meet Southern Mississippi in the PapaJohns.com bowl in Birmingham, Alabama next month.
