HOME FOR THANKSGIVING

Jessica LeTarte is home to Eaton Rapids for the first time since she left early last July for school at West Point.  The former Eaton Rapids High School track and cross country star chose to attend the military academy over a similar offer from the Air Force.  Jessica's parents visited her twice since she left home, but this is the first week end she's been back in Eaton Rapids.  Her grades are good and she loves life at the school in the hills outside New York City.

The MSU football coaches were on the road recruiting Tuesday and Wednesday after being given Monday off.  The MSU team banquet occupied their time last Sunday following Saturday's regular season ending win over Penn State.  The Spartans still have some ten days to wait before knowing their bowl destination-- Orlando, Tempe, Arizona or Detroit.

Big high school basketball scrimmage all day Saturday at Lansing Eastern's Don Johnson Fieldhouse.  Teams from all over the state will take part.  No admission for spectators.  The regular season opens one week from next Tuesday.  Sexton, Waverly and Holt, in no particular order, appear to be the best teams from the area heading into the boys' season.

Finally a big Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit.  The Lions usually are playing for nothing and this year, their 6-4 record has them in the thick of the wild card race in the play offs.  They are three games behind 9-1 Green Bay in their division, but a win over the Packers Thursday keeps them at least within hailing distance of the top.  The Lions have lost two in a row.  Their fans will boo like crazy if they don't play well at Ford Field.

And then the high school kids take over Ford Field Friday and Saturday, four games each day in the state high school football finals.  Fulton plays the first game, 10am Friday in division eight against Crystal Falls Forest Park.  Jackson Lumen Christi, 12-1 in division five, faces 13-0 Menominee at 4:30pm on Saturday.
