I'm anxious to see Michigan State's men's basketball team next year when Raymar Morgan and Delvon Roe are together on the front line.  Kalin Lucas and Chris Allen will likely man other starting spots and then after that I'm not sure how the rotation will work out.  Will Goran Suton be the fifth starter, or maybe Marquise Gray?  The Spartans won't have a center-- unless you believe Tom Herzog or Idong Ibok all of a sudden will improve to the point of being a reliable post player.  Durrell Summers and Travis Walton will provide depth off the bench and who knows how much time initially Korie Lucious and Draymond Green will see.  And what about Isiah Dahlman and where will he fit in during his junior year?  There will be plenty of talent but it would help to have a post scoring presence.  But the forwards should be dynamic along with the guards.

High school basketball practice has begun, for both boys and girls teams, now due to play alongside each other.  For the boys, the usual powers, Okemos and Holt, are both rebuilding, although Holt has more experience returning than does Okemos.  Lansing Sexton has Carlton Valentine back as coach after a year's suspension for recruiting issues.  There does not appear to be a clearcut power in the area, although Waverly will be led by Zack Saylor, who signed a scholarship on Wednesday to play next winter at Central Michigan.  Lansing Catholic was 21-3 last season, but lost star guard Aaron Nichols, who is now a regular student only at Notre Dame.  And standout center Mike Repovz won't be available all season because of a first game football injury last August.

It's too bad the MSU vs. Miami of Ohio hockey series is being played the week of all this college basketball and football.  It is buried by a lack of publicity yet these teams are ranked numbers one and three in the nation, both with 8-1 records.  It matters little how the games turn out on Thursday and Friday because there is the bulk of the season to play.  But for what it's worth, clearly two of the best teams in the college game will go at it with plenty of seats still available.
