DEHAAN SHOULD BE OKAY

Allyssa DeHaan injured her left ankle in Friday night's exhibition game at the Breslin Center against Grand Valley State. She left after playing nine minutes and did not return. She is listed as day to day and may or may not play in Sunday's 2pm game at the Breslin Center against Lake Superior State, also an exhibition game. There is swelling in DeHaan's ankle, but the injury is not considered severe. MSU opens the women's schedule next Friday against IUPUI in the pre season WNIT tournament. You wonder if Shannon Brown will go the way of other former MSU basketball players-- terrific college careers, but a wall when it comes to making it long term in the NBA. Brown's option year with Cleveland is gone. He'll get paid through the end of this season and then he becomes a free agent. Whether Cleveland tries to re-sign him or not remains to be seen. You wonder if Brown would have opted to stay one more year at Michigan State if he knew then what he knows now. The Detroit Lions have a legitimate shot to finish the first half of the season at 6-2 with a win over the Denver Broncos when the teams meet at 1pm Sunday in Ford Field. The sports news in December could be flavored heavily by the Lions' potential run to the NFL play offs. This year's Thanksgiving Day game with the Green Bay Packers will finally have some meaning for both teams. Both are atop the NFC North standings at the moment, although Green Bay still has just one loss. The teams have both games against each other yet to play this season. Suddenly Lions' quarterback Jon Kitna and his prediction of at least ten wins for the regular season does not look so far fetched. The weakness of the NFC benefits Detroit in its play off bid and who in the world could be considered from the conference to be the leader for a Super Bowl berth? Kitna's incident over a Halloween costume party and his portrayal of assistant coach Joe Cullen apparently won't be a longterm problem. The team is winning and no one wants to change the current atmosphere over Kitna's decision to imitate Cullen and his legal adventures of a year ago. #####
