Some 15 games on Friday involving area teams in the state high school football play offs on opening night. Williamston hosts Belding at 3pm. Pewamo-Westphalia plays a home game at 3pm Saturday-- everything else is at 7pm Friday.
Haslett at DeWitt. Top area opening night match up. DeWitt won twice over Haslett last year-- make it twice this year. Haslett doesn't have a quarterback to match Dan VanDreumel of DeWitt who is five passes away from tying the state's single season record of 37 set by Ithaca's Josh Brehm in 2002. DeWitt won 41-18 several weeks ago at Haslett and that score sounds about right Friday night.
South Lyon at Everett. The Vikings win at home. They're 8-1 and they're pretty good especially on defense. Holt is 9-0 and hosts Battle Creek Central, 6-3. Holt wins and moves on to likely face rugged Rockford in week two. East Lansing is at Linden, a toss up game. Okemos is excited just to be in the play offs at 6-3, but winning at 7-2 Farmington Harrison will be tough. Imagine Harrison coach John Herrington being in the same job at that school for 38 years.
Fowlerville is at Adrian, a dangerous road game for the visitors. Sexton, 6-3, should roll at home over Battle Creek Harper Creek. Lansing Catholic is one and done in a trip to Alma. Allendale may have trouble stopping Portland's running game at Portland. I like Leslie at home over Albion and Fulton, 9-0, romps at home over Fowler, 5-4. Fowler is in its 24th high school play off, second most times in the play offs in state history. Webberville moves to 10-0 with a win at home over New Lothrop, but then comes a date at Fulton.
