Often times former MSU football coach George Perles is funny and he isn't trying to be. On Wednesday's Staudt on Sports radio show I asked George about the Big Ten Network.
"It's a complete mess," he stated flatly. "I hope they get it sorted out by next year."
George also had some thoughts on some of the football game television analysts. "It looks to me like they got some of these guys out of a pool hall."
George is nervous about Michigan State's bowl situation. The Spartans could get six wins and still not get a bowl bid because up to nine Big Ten teams may be bowl eligible. George's Motor City Bowl would love to have the Spartans but if a 7-5 Big Ten team is ahead of the Spartans the Motor City Bowl must choose that team instead. As it is there are no good teams in the Mid American Conference this fall, yet three of them will get bowl bids. The Motor City Bowl gets the first MAC pick-- but who gets chosen from a bad field?
If the Spartans go 2-2 the rest of the way and finish 7-5 their best bet is the Insight Bowl in Tempe, Arizona or the Motor City Bowl. If they go 3-1 the rest of the way they could play in the December 28th Champps Sports Bowl in Orlando or the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, the last bowl in which they appeared. And if the win all four remaining games they could still play New Year's Day in either Orlando or Tampa.
