Things You Didn't Know... And Probably Don't Want To Know

I've got a few minutes before I have to head back to Day 2 of the Matthew Macon trial and figured I'd give this an update. The past 36 hours have been full of more emotional testimony, horrible autopsy pictures, frenzied and panicked 911 calls, and unexpected accusations than I ever could have imagined.

Macon's attorney, Mike O'Briant, is arguing that Macon's brother, Melvin Hobbs, murdered Sandra Eichorn and beat-- almost to death--  Linda Jackson. It's an accusation that surprised almost everyone-- and admittedly, it's not an argument often heard in court. "He didn't do it... his brother did." In a pretty candid conversation with Macon's cousin Clifton Jackson, I asked him-- what the heck?! How is your family dealing with this? Who are you standing behind? He really really wouldn't say. He says they're standing behind the truth. However, I've met Melvin Hobbs before-- last September-- and his presence is noticeably amiss in the courtroom. Clifton Jackson wouldn't tell me where he was. He's on O'Briant's list of witnesses so let's see if he testifies.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but the whole thing isn't surprising me. People at work are beginning to think I'm nuts. ANYTHING is possible.

Beyond that, I have to say some of the details of these murders and assault are stomach-wrenching and downright awful. Last summer in the news, we simply would say: "A woman was found brutally beaten and murdered." However, I'm even learning new things-- and I knew more last summer than I was allowed to say on the news. Prosecutors say one woman was bashed over and over on the head with the porcelain top to a toilet. She was rammed through a wall so hard the dry-wall broke. She was dragged-- still alive-- up and down flights of stairs. Today we were shown her autopsy photos. As I mentioned before, I'm a sensitive gal, and all I wanted to do was reach over and hug family members. The brother of the victim ran out of the courtroom crying.

In one way, be thankful you aren't seeing everything I'm seeing. But in another way, people should see what others are capable of. It's truly scary.

I'm heading back to court. Prosecution is SAILING... or shall I say FLYING... through witnesses.
