I suppose the Lions could make a worse move than signing Daunte Culpepper
, but I'd be hard-pressed to come up with one off the top of my head. Why on earth would an 0-7 team sign a washed-up QB with no knees? The rest of the season should be about evaluating Dan Orlovsky
and Drew Stanton
to see if they're even worth keeping around next year. Rod Marinelli
is obviously hoping to win enough games the rest of the way to either save his job or line up work with another team in 2009. As much as I was a Marinelli supporter when he was hired, it's time for him to go now, not at the end of the season. There's no way this team is winning more than a game or two, and even that seems like an incredible stretch right now. It's time to play the rookies and see what we can cobble together from the ashes of the Millen Era. All the draft picks should be seeing heavy time, Orlovsky and Stanton should be playing extensively and any veterans who won't be back next year should be headed to the bench. Either that, or we go forward in a futile quest to save a lame-duck coach's job. If Marinelli has any sense he's got to know the next GM (and please let it be someone with a history of building winning teams, not another ex-announcer or former player with no experience) is going to send him packing. I only hope when that happens Rod can find a team that wants to hear him talk about "pounding the rock" and such in the face of yet another humiliating defeat.
