John McCain has tapped Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be the Republican vice presidential running mate in a startling selection on the eve of the Republican National Convention.
McCain's campaign said Friday that Palin "has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of.
Palin has a strong anti-abortion record, and her selection was praised warmly by social conservatives whose support Mccain needs to prevail in the campaign.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a rival of McCain's in the primary race, had earlier been considered among the leading contenders to join the McCain ticket.
Romney grew up in Michigan, where his father, George Romney, was governor and a GOP presidential contender.

I beg to differ with you Bethany, with all due respect of course! This could be just what we need to entice the Hillary supporters*WHO by the way are majority of women. This woman Sarah Palin, has been A SUCCESS in all of her endeavors which is very Impressive. Dont throw in the towel just yet. It is a new beginning for the Republicans and just may be the Ticket to a SURE WIN for the WHITE HOUSE. Dont sell the American people short. We will learn much more about her in the next few following days, and it will bring a new light to many and open their eyes that there is more then Hillary out there.
