Barack Obama's doctor says he's "in excellent health," in a one-page letter released by the campaign today.
The Democratic presidential candidate's vice: He's a smoker who has quit, unsuccessfully, on several occasions. But Dr. David Scheiner, a Chicago internist, writes that Obama is currently trying again, with Nicorette gum, "with success."
He wrote that Obama, who's 46, is a regular jogger "with no excess body fat." His last checkup over a year ago found excellent blood pressure and cholesterol levels, no signs of heart problems on an EKG, and a healthy prostate, the letter concluded.
Scheiner has been Obama's primary care doctor since 1987, and said he was summarizing 21 years of medical records in five paragraphs.
